Emergency procedures have been put in place to assure the safety of your children. These procedures were developed by the staff and the police officers serving the campus of Grace School. It is important that you know exactly where your children will be located for pickup if there is an emergency. The type of emergency determines the location of pickup. If for some reason you are unable to retrieve your children in a timely manner, the School is prepared to care for your child until you arrive.
HOMELAND EMERGENCY
The School has prepared for different scenarios as described by the Secretary of Homeland Security. If this type of emergency takes place, the children will be moved to the gymnasium, our most secure location. The children will be released from the gymnasium only to those individuals listed on the Student Emergency Card.
WEATHER EMERGENCY
School will not open in the morning if weather conditions are determined to be dangerous. Grace School closes in the morning if H.I.S.D. posts a closing notice. However, we may close independently if deemed necessary. All information regarding morning closings will be posted on the local television stations and on our school telephone.
If inclement weather occurs during school hours, your children will be taken to a safe location until the weather passes. In most cases, the children will return to their classrooms. We will remain open until the regular school day ends. However, parents/guardians may choose to pick up children before dismissal time. Only those individuals designated on the Emergency Card may pick up children.
CAMPUS EMERGENCY
In the event that Grace School experiences an emergency in the geographical area of the School, we may elect to “lock down” the campus for the children’s safety. Other emergency situations might include such events as power outages, natural gas leakage, fire, an intruder, etc. The staff will evaluate the event and may contact a person designated on the Emergency Card for pickup.

Updating Information
It is critical that all students’ Emergency Card information be accurate. Contact the school receptionist at (713) 782-4421 to correct or update information.
After School Care
Grace School students in the Grace Presbyterian Church ARC (After-School Recreation Connection) Ministry will remain in the care of the School until the emergency ends. ARC Ministry personnel will assist Grace School faculty in the care of children.
