Grace School History

HISTORY

Grace School was founded in 1975 after Reverend Dan Baker, the first pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church, envisioned a Christian school that would be an extension of the Grace Church Christian Education program. The goal of the school was to introduce students to Jesus Christ and to teach them the importance of becoming strong Christian leaders. Christian beliefs and practices were taught at the school according to the doctrine and practices of the Presbyterian Church. When the school opened in 1975, there was one Pre-Kindergarten class, one Kindergarten class, and one first grade class for a total of 15 students. By 1986, the school had grown to over 350 students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. Grace School’s first eighth grade graduating class had 14 students.

Now, over thirty years later, there are more than 470 students at Grace School ranging from twenty months in Primary School through eighth grade. Many enhancements have been made to the school including a lower school science lab, fifth through eighth grade band, athletics beginning in fifth grade, and newly remodeled  classrooms with state-of-the-art technology. Under the current leadership of Dr. Liz Walgamuth and the School Committee, Grace School continues to grow. Our experienced faculty and small class sizes offer students a chance to excel academically in an environment that enables them to explore and deepen their faith through service to others. As Grace continues to grow, it is our vision to develop leaders in our community who continue to learn to lead and live to serve long after they have left Grace.
